COURSE MOTIVATOR:  Everybody loves dogs, but did you know that K9s have been used in Public safety for centuries? K9s play an integral part in both fire and police departments. Familiarity with the types of K9s available can help ECPs better prepare for calls requiring a K9.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

1.0    The student will be able to discuss the history of K9s in public safety.
2.0    The student will be able to explain the traits in K9s used in public safety.
3.0    The student will be able to list the best breeds for public safety K9s.
4.0    The student will be able to differentiate between patrol K9s and detection K9s.
5.0    The student will be able to discuss the differences between single-purpose and dual-purpose K9s.
6.0    The student will be able to explain the jobs performed by public safety K9s.
7.0    The student will be able to list the three types of human remains detection dogs.
8.0    The student will be able to determine the appropriate uses of dogs in the ECC.

LENGTH OF COURSE: 2 Hours (Continuing Education)

APPROVED STATES: Texas, Georgia, Missouri

TARGET AUDIENCE:  9-1-1 Emergency Communication Professionals (Dispatchers & Calltakers)

PASS RATE: Students must score 75% on the knowledge checkpoints and 80% on the final examination.
