COURSE MOTIVATOR:  Every 11 minutes, someone dies from an opioid overdose. Opioids do not discriminate, killing infants to the elderly. Early intervention with naloxone can save lives, but first, ECPs must recognize a potential opioid overdose.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

1.0    The student will be able to differentiate between opiates and opioids.
2.0    The student will be able to explain the factors leading to the opioid epidemic.
3.0    The student will be able to discuss the role of fentanyl in the opioid epidemic.
4.0    The student will be able to list the signs of a potential opioid overdose.
5.0    The student will be able to explain the proper way to administer naloxone.
6.0    The student will be able to discuss the benefits of good Samaritan Drug Laws.
7.0    The student will be able to recognize calls for a potential drug overdose.
8.0    The student will be able to explain techniques to calm callers reporting a drug overdose.
9.0    The student will be able to ensure responder safety for calls involving opioids.

LENGTH OF COURSE: 2 Hours (Continuing Education)

APPROVED STATES: Texas, Georgia, Missouri

TARGET AUDIENCE:  9-1-1 Emergency Communication Professionals (Dispatchers & Calltakers)

PASS RATE: Students must score 75% on the knowledge checkpoints and 80% on the final examination.
